Drivers' Union convened an emergency meeting of its executive body on Monday and mourned the sudden demise of its long-time general secretary H Kulamani.
Executive body members also observed two minutes' silence in memory of the departed soul and shared pain and grief of the bereaved family.
After the meeting, Drivers' Union general secretary Maimom Anil told media persons that the derogatory remark made by Sapamcha Jadumani against drivers during discussion session on a television channel on December 21 was very unfortunate.
During the discussion, Jadumani even said that the drivers, who are rendering immense service for the people, as improperly raised by their parents and Drivers' Union takes his remark very seriously.
Drivers too are human beings and they are rendering their service for the people in life and death situation, Anil reminded, adding that majority of drivers of the state are not only educated and able to read and write but also love human beings.
Children of many drivers have joined government jobs while some hold high positions and even became doctors and engineers, Anil added.
According to Anil, Drivers' Union fully understands how wise and educated Sapamcha Jadumani is and it is a fact that he is not associated with a single organisation.
For his own selfish gains, Jadumani shifts from one organisation to another and his derogatory remark against drivers shocked the entire drivers of the state, Anil said and asked Jadumani to tender apology to the union or else legal action would be initiated against him.
Anil also announced that Drivers' Union will boycott Sapamcha Jadumani and no drivers will take part in any religious ceremony of his family and relatives.
