Imphal, December 26 2022:
While questioning the claim made by a board member of Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans' CS Ltd (AWAS) who said that president of the Society tried to conduct election secretly with the help of some organisations and Registrar of Co-operative Societies at an undisclosed place and time through the media, All Manipur Weavers Co-operative Society Association (AMWCSA) president N Ibeni denounced that the board member is trying to malign image of the Society with false allegations.
In a release, N Ibeni enquired how the board member made such claims and on the basis of what official document and demanded that the board member validate the claims with documentary evidences, failing which the same will be considered as an act to mislead the society and an attempt to eradicate it.
Ibeni also advised the board member to resign if the claim cannot be substantiated.
While informing that the apex body organised 11 fairs for weavers, 15 cluster development programmes and other initiatives for the welfare of handloom weavers both in the hills and plains of Manipur since last year, Ibeni pointed out that the people as well as different societies have been appreciating the society for the development programmes.
In such a situation, a board member out of the seven making claims in the media of conducting election secretly without any official documents is condemnable.
She further questioned how a president of the apex society could sway the Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
It is time for the societies to look into the unfounded claims made which could derail the apex society.
Urging the registrar office and the remaining board members of the apex society to probe against the board member, she maintained that AMWCSA will also conduct investigation and further appealed to member societies to support them.
