Roop Rag to host 'Adungeigee Ishei' concert

After a hiatus of its 'The Great Two Nights' concert, Roop Raag would be hosting 'Adungeigee Ishei', a musical concert of forgotten melodies, at Manipur Press Club, here, on December 31 from 5 pm onwards.
Informing this during a press meet held at the Uripok Achom Leikai residence of Makhonmani Mongsaba on Monday, Roop Raag president Shamurailatpam Nabachandra said that the music institution is preparing to host a series of events in relation with its 62nd anniversary.
Apart from organising programmes in the state, Roop Raag will also conduct events in Barak Valley, Brahmaputra Valley, Hojai, Guwahati, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Winners of different awards such as Aheibam Budhachandra Award, Aheibam Shyam Award, Khun Joykumar awards will be announced during the anniversary events, he said, while urging for public support in hosting these events.
Renowned filmmaker Makhonmani Mongsaba said that Roop Raag was founded in 1960 by writers, musicians and scholars in Yaiskul as an institution of music and drama.
It is a rare institution founded by many renowned personalities of the state and it has been serving the society for decades.
Awards like Khuraijam Phulendra Award, Ayekpam Lakshman Award, Maibam Haricharan Award were instituted in 2000, he said.
'The Great Two Nights' has been a tradition of Roop Raag since 1983-84 until the programme went into hiatus due to Covid-19 pandemic.
As a way of reviving the event, Roop Raag will host 'Adungeigee Ishei' on December 31 this year and continue 'The Great Two Nights' from next year onwards, he said.
He also informed that new office bearers for the term 2022-25 have been elected to carry forward the tradition and legacy of the institution.
