UMPC cautions Meitei-Pangal slanders

Claiming that certain individuals are tarnishing reputation of Meitei-Pangal community via the social media and trying to divert attention from sensitive issues besetting the state, United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC) has announced its intention to take action against these individuals.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Sunday, spokesperson Rayish Ahmad said that UMPC which was formed on July 8, 2023 by clubbing various CSOs, clubs and bodies of the Meitei Pangal community.
Since then, the committee has been taking up initiatives for the welfare of the state, including drug related issues, on different platforms.
However, it is regrettable that certain individuals, purportedly representing specific communities, have been posting derogatory comments on social media platforms, aiming to destroy the reputation of the Meitei-Pangal community and divert attention from the current state issues.
The committee views such actons gravely and has resolved to pursue legal action against those individuals in accordance with the law of the land, he added.
He also appealed all concerned to avoid generating unnecessary complications while attempting to apprehend drug smugglers in specific areas without substantial evidence.
Instead, he urged any individual or group to reach out to the committee following which it would then guide the group or individual to the appropriate authority for further action.
Rayish Ahmad further stated that the committee, besides holding press conferences to address drug-related concerns, has been actively raising awareness on the issue for a considerable period.
The committee has repeatedly urged the relevant authorities to address the ongoing crisis in the state and restore peace as soon as possible.
Meetings have been held with Meetei CSOs and UNC.
However, there have been no discussions initiated with Kuki CSOs as of now.
