Imphal, May 05 2024:
Shiv Sena Manipur president M Tombi Singh has said that the government of India should make the people of Manipur aware about the present status of Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement signed with Kuki armed groups.
Shiv Sena leaders led by M Tombi took part in the last rites of former Shiv Sena Manipur Minority vice president Amarjit Singh Manchandra conducted at Gurudwara, Thangal Bazar on Sunday.
Expressing concern over the unresolved violence in the state, Tombi told media persons on the sidelines of the ritual, that Kuki militants continue to violate SoO ground and even targeted trucks plying along national highways.
As there is no sign of taking action against cadres of SoO groups involved in anti-social and anti-na-tional activities till date the government of India ought to make clear whether the SoO pact has been extended or withdrawn, he said.
Regarding charges made against village volunteers for possessing firearms illegally, M Tombi reasoned that the as youth took up arms to safeguard the land they should be exempted from harsh legal action.
He also stressed the need for extending cooperation to efforts being made by chief minister N Biren Singh to restore peace and normalcy in the state and suggested holding an all parties' meet on resolving the crisis.
Imphal Bazar Board former chairman Amrik Singh Pawa, who also attended the ritual ceremony, told media persons that the sudden demise of Amarjit Singh Manchandra is great loss for the board.
He also strongly called for resolving the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
