Imphal, December 26 2022:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has lambasted Chief Minister N Biren for his statement that late Jawaharlal Nehru tried to bifurcate Manipur into hill areas and valley region in his efforts to become the Prime Minister of India.
Reacting to certain statements made by Chief Minister N Biren at an event organised by BJP at Khuman Lampak on Saturday, MPCC vice-president and senior spokesman Hareshwar Goshwami remarked that the Chief Minister's statements were nothing but cheap propaganda.
Pointing out that Jawaharlal Nehru was sworn in as the first Prime Minister of India on August 15, 1947 while Manipur became a part of India on October 15, 1949, Hareshwar Goshwami rejected the Chief Minister's statement that Nehru tried to bifurcate Manipur in his efforts to become the Prime Minister of India and for administrative convenience as completely false.
Speaking at the particular event, N Biren claimed that India is now able to sell many products of the country including missiles to foreign countries since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister even though India used to purchase many products including defence weapons from other countries earlier, the MPCC vice-president quoted.
He then pointed out that India became the sixth nuclear power Nation in 1974. After ISRO was established in 1969, India's first satellite Aryabhatta was launched in 1975 and the country's first telecom satellite was launched in 1981 .
The country's first mission to the moon, Chandrayan-I was launched in 2008 before the country's first nuclear powered ballistic missile was tested in 2009 .
In addition to commissioning Agni-V, INS Vikrant etc, India became the first country in the world to reach the orbit of Mars in 2013, Hareshwar said.
He then asserted that all these landmark developments in the field of science and technology were achieved when the Congress party was in power.
Brahmos missile which the BJP has been claiming to have sold to foreign countries was developed during the Congress Government, he continued.
N Biren also made a claim that BJP has been working to develop border areas and integrate the country as one while Congress worked to the contrary, Hareshwar quoted.
He then questioned as to why BJP has not been implementing PMGSY works properly if they are genuinely concerned for border districts and villages.
He further asked what the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Cell set up by the BJP-led Government has been doing regarding the PMGSY works.
He went on to claim that construction of Kangchup-Tamenglong-Haflong, Ukhrul-Tolloi-Tadubi, Churachandpur-Singat-Sinzawl- Tuivai and Tipaimukh-Imphal-Ukhrul-Jessami roads began when there was Congress Government in the State.
Questioning if the BJP-led Government has taken up any new project, the MPCC vice-president asserted that the BJP is only good at hoodwinking the masses by 'cosmetic development'.
It is the BJP which has been working to fragment the country through their ideology of Hindutva and the dream of Hindu Rashtra, he charged.
