Imphal, December 26 2022:
Manipur's oldest church Phungyo Baptist Church (PBC) hosted hundreds of non-Christians for a festive feast which was organised as part of Christmas celebrations on Sunday.
The grand festive feast held at 3 pm at the public ground in Ukhrul town was joined by more than 300 non-Christians along with mem bers of Hindi Baptist Church (HBC), Ukhrul.
A PBC functionary informed that the church came up with the event as a gesture of love, peace and brotherhood among the mankind as testified by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Christmas is a festival of gifts and it's only befitting that the gift of Christ s love is shared with everyone around irrespective of creeds or religions, the functionary said.
Mutton curry was served to attendees, for which PBC had offered seven goats.
Meanwhile, as in different parts of the world, Christmas is being celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in Tamenglong and Noney districts in spite of the unseasonal rainfall hindering movement of the believers and conduct of outdoor events.
It is generally celebrated for three days in the two districts.
However, on the Second day Monday, rain disrupted the otherwise joyous celebration.
Christmas celebration halls were wet and people compelled to shift to the dry places like community halls and church buildings.
The celebrations, which began on Christmas Eve (December 24), are generally marked by devotees going to church to worship and praise God.
Gospel sermons, singing Christmas carols by church choirs, gifts presentation, cultural & entertainment programmes, and Christmas feast are some highlights of the celebrations.
