Handover ceremony of COCOMI organised

The handing over function of the mantle of the old members of Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), an umbrella body of different civil society organisations of Manipur, to the new members was held at Shilheipung, Leimakhong Mapal under Lamlai assembly constituency on Monday.
The new office bearers of the Committee are Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) president Jitendra Ningombam as co-ordinator, LIPUN's Somen Thokchom as media-coordinator and United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joychandra Konthoujam as finance secretary.
Representatives of other bodies were appointed as assistant co-ordinators.
Speaking on the occasion, Jitendra Ningombam remarked that the bonds among different communities are now closer than ever and will continue to get stronger.
While affirming that it is COCOMI's unwavering stand that communities must not disturb Manipur's territorial and emotional integrity while crusading for their political rights, he said COCOMI's demands of special status for Manipur, setting up of a population Commission and updation of NRC are still alive.
The Committee had submitted written requests to the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister and the Chief Minister in this regard and will continue to push the matter and if required, will exert pressure on the union government, he conveyed.
