Meets for self-reliant Manipur continue

Continuing its efforts for a self-reliant Manipur, Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) and Uttra Shanglen under the aegis of titular king Leisemba Sanajaoba convened meetings at different 'laibungs' (shrines) with 'Lai' committees.
In a release, UKAL secretary (publicity) Th Ratankumar pointed out that the society has been swayed by foreign cultures in the name of development.

The meetings resolved to focus on working hard for improving the economy and becoming self-reliant Manipur and to continue discussion on the present scenario and issues of the society, he added.
Meanwhile, Thang-ta Lo-isang, Sana Konung, in a release, informed that members of the Loisang will take part in Ima Imoinu Iratpa event to be organised by Uttra Shanglen and UKAL on January 3, atop Koubru hill.
While urging all for participating in the ritual event, the release also appealed to its members, who will take part in it, for giving prior information to them.
On the other hand, South East Asia Cultural Organisation (SEACO) secretary general Irengbam Indrajit Meetei pointed out that 12th day of Manipur lunar month of 'Wakching', which falls on January 3, is a holy day for praying to goddess of wealth 'Ima Imoinu'.
While praying for peace, prosperity, development and communal harmony with the coming of Ima Imoinu Iratpa day, he appealed to all for performing only indigenous songs and dances on the holy day and further urged to apply 'Leisha' on their forehead and not 'Sindoor' used by Hindus when going for praying at holy places.
He also exhorted not to organise housie on that day and refrain from indulging in addictive substances.
