Rain plays spoilsport to Christmas mood

Biting winter rain spoiled Christmas spirit as most of the denizens of Ukhrul stayed indoors.
The weeklong Christmas celebration of Ukhrul town witnessed myriad outdoor competition and Church activities earlier.
But due to rain, all Christmas celebration activities came to a grinding halt in the town in the last two days.
In Ukhrul town, Christian denominations such as Baptist Mission, Seventh Day Adventist, Roman Catholic etc have their own members while every Church in Ukhrul town organised separate events.
Talking to this correspondent, most of the denizens of Ukhrul expressed that they dearly missed jaggery (Chini gur).
Conventionally in Ukhrul, jaggeries were distributed at the celebration venue as a Christmas gift to all the attendees.
Jaggery is an integral part of Christmas and everyone loves to enjoy the taste during the festive season in Ukhrul, many of them said.
Besides the biting cold, the damp ground prevents them from going out, said R Kathingla.
They prayed for a clear sky to enjoy the Christmas season with pomp and gaiety.
Reportedly, outdoor and other activities of Christmas celebration in Ukhrul town have all been put on hold due to the extremely cold weather.
