Imphal, December 27 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has ridiculed chief minister N Biren's statement against first the Prime Minister of India and Congress leader Jawaharlal Nehru as cheap propaganda.
Speaking to media per sons at Congress Bhawan here on Monday, MPCC vice president Hareshwar Goswami ridiculed the statement of the CM published in local dailies stating that Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru divided hills and valley of Manipur only for administrative convenience and to hold the post of PM without considering its effect to Manipur.
"As Jawaharlal Nehru was already the Prime Minister before Manipur merged to India, the claim of CM N Biren is baseless and smacks of cheap propaganda", he said.
Highlighting the works and activities of the late Prime Minister and Congress Party, Hareshwar said that Congress brought a new wave of Information Technology in India under the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and became the 6th nuclear power country in 1974.In 1975, India launched its first satellite Aryabhata, telecom satellite 'APPLE' in 1981, Chandrayaan in 2008, developed Agni-1 in 2012 and launched INS Vikrant in 2013.BrahMos and Pinaka missiles which the country exported to other countries were also developed by Congress, he maintained, while adding that BJP government only spreads lies and does not accord importance to development activities.
The scenario is similar in Manipur as no development initiatives except some footbridges and development in Kangla Eastern riverbank are being taken up by the BJP government and the rest are all cosmetic beautification works.
Even though the BJP government claimed that it is working for the development of border villages, and despite declaration of launching air ambulance in 2017, the government has failed to translate the initiative into action till now, Hareshwar asserted.
Moreover, the CM remains silent after claiming that Rs 25 crore has been ear-marked by the ministry, he added.
