Many still unaware about government schemes: SW Director

The first foundation day of Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Imphal, which is operating under Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Cuttack, was celebrated at Government Blind School, Takyelpat, here, on Tuesday.
The celebration was attended by Social Welfare director Dr Ng Uttam, joint director Bantee Singh Konthoujam, deputy director L Dhaneshwor and RIMS PT unit PMR HoD Pangambam Lolito Singh as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Ng Uttam opined that large numbers of people of Manipur are yet to be aware about the benefits provided by the centre.
While informing that skill development centres set up in Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur have been extending various opportunities to differently abled people in particular, he said that considering the opportunities and benefits that could be derived from such facilities, Social Welfare Department allotted a building for the centre at Takyelpat without taking any rent.
The director also confided that the department is working to allot similar spaces for the centre in other parts of Imphal area and stressed on the need for public to enquire about benefits being extended by the centre, including establishment of rehabilitation centres set up under the Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme.
