Imphal, December 27 2022:
Expressing regret over his inability to timely clarify regarding the remark he made against drivers during a discussion programme on a television network which hurt sentiments of drivers, Federation of Haomee president Sapamcha Jadumani said that his incomplete remark led to the present issue.
Jadumani said that he could not clarify about the matter in time as he went to Tripura just after the discussion session and urged people to pardon him for this.
According to Jadumani, his derogatory remark against drivers during discussion session on ISTV network on December 21 was neither made deliberately to insult drivers nor meant for the entire drivers of the state.
In a clarification note, Sapamcha Jadumani said that many parents send their children to boarding schools in both the state and outside for the sake of future of the children instead of keeping them at home and hand over the responsibility of moulding the children to teachers.
In the same manner, some parents hand over their children to drivers to make them successful people in life and drivers raised these children as their own offspring.
The discussion was held to prevent the tragic accident occurred recently along Old Cachar road but there is no denial of the fact that drivers of the state are rendering their invaluable service for the people day and night and hence he honours the drivers, Jadumani said.
While recalling tiring experience he had in rescuing drivers kidnapped by UGs in Senapati district while he was the president of UCM in 2003-04, Jadumani said that he even stayed overnight in Senapati to rescue the kidnapped drivers and he along with functionaries of the then Drivers' Union welcomed the drivers at Kangpokpi police station.
He also recalled how trucks stranded along national highways due to blockade were brought back and honoured the drivers for their invaluable service to the people of the state.
Sapamcha Jadumani further said that a team of Federation of Haomee inspected the bus accident site at Long-sai village on December 23 and it was horrible to witness belongings of the students like spectacles, shoes and sandals, paper plates, sitting mats, pressure cookers and others spread at the site.
Government must find out actual cause of the December 21 bus accident and the guilty, if any, should be punished as per law, he said, adding that non-identification and non-punishment of guilty people in road accidents in the past led to occurrence of tragic accidents like the recent one at Longsai.
Regarding the ever in creasing population of outsiders in the state, Sapamcha Jadumani said that majority of outsiders in the state were brought by drivers for their selfish gains.
There is no denial of the fact that some drivers indulged in transportation of illegal liquor, Ganja and drugs including Heroin and hence authority concerned must look into ethics of the drivers.
