Man held with 2 kg brown sugar

Teams of Thoubal district police commando arrested a man with around 2 kg of suspected brown sugar on Tuesday morning.
According to a police re port, on receiving reliable report about shipment of a large consignment of drugs from Churachandpur to Moi-jing Wangmataba area on Tuesday, commando teams of Thoubal district rushed towards Moijing Wangmataba around 5.30 am and conducted a search of the area.
During the search, the team detained one person, identified as Saijabam Amar Ahamad (24) s/o Md Sahabuddin of Moijing Wangmataba Konjin Leikai at around 6 am, who was carrying a black polythene bag.
On searching the bag, it was found to contain another yellowish plastic packet.
The packet was opened and found to contain a powdery substance, suspected to be brown sugar, weighing approximately 2 kg, including the weight of the plastic polythene and the plastic packet.
The suspected substance was seized at around 7.15 am and Saijabam Amar arrested on the spot by observing necessary formalities.
On questioning, Amar revealed that he is part of a drug manufacturing and trafficking racket, in which raw opium is procured from Churachandpur District, processed into brown sugar and then delivered to dealers in Assam.
The arrested person and seized item were handed over to Thoubal PS, where a case has been registered for taking up necessary legal action.
