One member of drug racket arrested

A man who is said to be a member of a drug manufacturing and trafficking racket has been arrested by Thoubal commandos along with 2 Kgs of brown sugar.
The value of the seized brown sugar is estimated to be around Rs 3 crore in the international market.
Acting on specific information about the presence of illegal drug traffickers in and around Thoubal Moijing Wangmataba area, a team of Thoubal commandos rushed to the area at around 5 am today and carried out a cordon and search operation.
In the course of the search operation, one person who was walking along the road holding a black polythene bag was detained for verification and checking.
The individual was identified as one Saijabam Amar Ahamad (24) s/o Md Sahabuddin of Moijing Wangmataba Konjin Leikai.
On checking the polythene bag, the commandos found 2 Kgs of brown sugar, sources informed.
As such, Saijabam Amar Ahamad was arrested on the spot apart from seizing the 2 Kgs of brown sugar he was carrying.
On questioning at the spot, Saijabam Amar Ahamad revealed that he is a member of a drug manufacturing and trafficking racket which procures raw opium from Churachandpur district before it is processed into brown sugar and delivered to dealers in Assam.
The arrested person and the seized item were handed over to Thoubal police station and a case has been registered for necessary legal action.
