₹55.70 cr material liabilities for state under MGNREGS

Manipur has pending liabilities of Rs 55.70 crore for material component under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the current financial year 2022-23 .
According to a report submitted to the parliament by union MoS for rural development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, the pending liabilities are for up to November 30 this year.
The report further stated that there is no pending liability for wages component for the state of Manipur.
The report further stated that 117.39 lakh person-days works were generated for the state during 2018-19 and numbers of works generated in subsequent years were 234.07 lakh person-days in 2019 20; 330.52 lakh person-days in 2020-21; and 305.69 lakh person-days in 2021-22.As per Section 6(1) of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the Central Government may by notification specify the wage rate for its beneficiaries.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Rural Development notifies wage rate every financial year for States/UTs.
To compensate the workers against inflation, the ministry revises the wage rate every financial year based on change in Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labour (CPI-AL).
The wage rate is made applicable from April 1 of each financial year.
However, each State/UT can provide wage over and above the wage rate notified by the Central government, the report added.
