Imphal, December 18 2022:
Continuing to exert pressure for sending the requisite recommendation to the Centre for inclusion of Meetei/ Meitei in the ST list of Indian Constitution, representatives of different organisations under the aegis of Coordinating Body of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee stormed the residence of Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti on Sunday and submitted a memorandum.
After receiving the memorandum, Thongam Shanti said that people of both hills and valley of Manipur lived together as brothers since time immemorial but the brotherly relation was affected at one point of time due to religious difference.
However, the brotherly relation between hills and valley people could be restored and strengthened if the demand for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in ST list is successful, he said.
Expressing hope that chief minister N Biren Singh would work in the interest of people, Thongam Shanti said that the chief minister has been working for the welfare of the people since becoming leader of the state and there is strong possibility of the chief minister taking up necessary step to fulfil the demand.
