Imphal, December 18 2022:
While accusing the Southern Angami People's Organisation (SAPO) of harassing Mao people and attempting to encroach on Dzuko Valley areas using brute force, the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has sought the intervention of the Central Government to settle the issue at the earliest.
In a statement, AMUCO said that the conducts of SAPO-torching a truck owned by a native of Mao, harassing Mao people residing in Angami dominated areas are a direct challenge to the entire Manipuris.
Asking why the Governments of the two States (Manipur and Nagaland) and the Centre didn't take any action when SAPO announced that people of Mao will not be allowed to enter their area, AMUCO maintained that all the horrors faced by the people of Mao a few days back could have been avoided had the Nagaland Government intervened.
The silence of the Nagaland Government on the matter implies that they morally support SAPO in their endeavours, AMUCO claimed and urged the Central Government to send a strong message to the Government in the neighbouring State so as to resolve the issue without hurting the interests of Manipur.
Further stating that the Manipur Government must have apprised the Central Government in advance to avert things from going out of hand in the border areas, AMUCO claimed that the Governments of the two States and the Centre seem to be enjoying the simmering tension at the border areas instead of finding a way to solve the issue amicably.
SAPO, a CSO based in Nagaland, started harassing the people of Mao for protecting the land of Manipur from encroachers, AMUCO claimed and further asked why Nagaland Government has not done anything to prevent SAPO from issuing such diktats on a people.
As per AMUCO, SAPO assaulted an auto driver who is a native of Mao, torched a Manipur bound truck in Nagaland and restricted Mao people from entering Angami dominated areas.
Maintaining that the Manipur Government must hold a dialogue with their counterpart in Nagaland and make them take responsibility for all the horrors meted out to innocent civilians especially Mao people in Nagaland, AMUCO continued that the Centre must not remain silent on such a sensitive issue.
It is the responsibility of all indigenous communities to safeguard the territorial and emotional integrity of Manipur which is being challenged by different elements from all directions, AMUCO said and maintained that the stand taken by the people in Mao and Maram areas to protect their lands is for the sake of the entire Manipur.
Asserting that the AMUCO takes the harassment being meted out to Mao people by SAPO very seriously, the organisation continued that they are ready to face all interferences which challenge the territorial integrity of Manipur and the people residing in it.
Maintaining that the people of Manipur will not give away even an inch of its land under any circumstances, AMUCO appealed to SAPO to stop harassing the innocent people but focus on creating a friendly relationship between the two States.
