Imphal, December 18 2022:
The Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) has filed a police complaint and strongly condemned the burning of a Manipur vehicle by suspected SAPO volunteers between Phesama and Khuzama in Nagaland recently.
The members of the MDA and other transport organisations filed the complaint in connection with the incident at the Khuzama police station today.
Later, speaking to media persons at the office of the Senapati District Truck Owners Association at Tadubi, MDA general secretary Sanjay Kshetrimayum said the association strongly condemns the incident.
He said, SAPO and organisations enforcing the ban on entry of Mao people in the 'Angami area' should not obstruct trucks and other vehicles carrying goods.
The National Highways are properties of the Nation and these are under the Centre.
Obstructing vehicles plying the Highway is against the law, he added.
Appealing to the SAPO to cause no obstructions to drivers and helpers on the Highway, he said the Nagaland Government should compensate for the loss.
He also appealed to the Manipur Government and the Nagaland Government to bring a lasting solution to the current issue in the border area.
Senapati District Truck Owners Association president Daikho Sani also urged SAPO and volunteers to refrain from obstructing and causing damage to trucks plying the Highway.
The Khuzama police has said that its personnel would provide escort to vehicles from Phesama to Mao, he added.
