Manipur People's Democratic Front (MPDF) secretary Sapam Samungou has said that International Human Rights Day observed every year for protection of the rights of humans across the globe is not a festival.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Sunday, Samungou said International Human Rights Day which is observed annually on December 10 is not an entertainment festival like New Year's Day.
Observance of International Human Rights Day will not be meaningful if the 194 member countries of the UN including India do not take steps to protect human rights as periodically suggested by experts in the held.
Every member country of the UN should have same thought on protecting human rights though they may do international politics on their own interests, he maintained and expressed that cold war culture will vanish if every member of the UN have this thought.
While contending that the UN will remains like a toothless tiger if the member nations fail to protect human rights, he wondered if the observance of International Human Rights Day on December 10 every year alone is the objective of the UN.
