Theatre is true art form : Nishikant

Theatre is a true form of art and majority of renowned film actors begin their journey through this, said MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam today.
Nishikant said this while attending the premiere of a play titled "Imagi Mapuroiba" at the auditorium of the Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) at Yaiskul Police Lane.
The MDU's play was produced under CMAT Production Grant, Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur.
The Keishamthong AC MLA, Nishikant Singh Sapam said, "Even though theatre earns little money, this is a true art.
Manipur has many good and famed theatres and artistes.
We are proud of this" .
He said Manipur is known and famous for its rich art and culture.

The MDU Hall has been in existence since 1931.The hall needs renovation and reconstruction to suit the present age and meet the needs of the union and artistes, he added.
MDU president Soraisham Keshoram, who attended the event said the theatre in Manipur is slowly declining and this is unfortunate.
All theatre unions and artistes need to come together and take up collective efforts to revitalise and promote the art.
Theatre is a reflection of society and all the issues that come with it.
Theatre has the ability to guide the society towards light, Keshoram said.
The play "Imagi Mapuroiba" was directed by Yumnam Brojenchandra Singh (senior director of MDU) with Mani Yumnam as script writer and Priyobarta Tonjam as associate director.
Department of Art and Culture Deputy Director Gurumayum Dharmadas attended the event as guest of honour.
