Imphal, December 18 2022:
Expressing serious concern over the unilateral decision of Nagaland's Angami tribe prohibiting entry of Mao denizens from Manipur and the violence erupting thereafter, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has asked government of Manipur to give a befitting reply to Nagaland.
In a release, AMUCO stated that the Naga land-based Southern Angami Peoples' Organisation (SAPO) along with some of its likeminded organisations has time and again been trying to encroach upon the land of Manipur particularly in Dzuko Valley and in the process perpetrating violence against people of Manipur particularly the Mao denizens.
The volunteers of SAPO have been indiscriminate ly torturing the people of Mao in Angami dominated areas of Nagaland following intervention from the Mao people against the encroachment of land in Manipur at the instigation of SAPO.
They have restricted entry of Mao people in Nagaland in Angami dominated areas and even chased out Mao people from their area.
They even went to the extent of causing damage to an auto rickshaw and a truck plying in their area, the release said while adding that all responsibilities for these untoward incidents should be fixed upon the government of Nagaland.
Moreover, there is no valid reason for the union government to remain as a mute spectator.
The decision of SAPO not only harms the people of Mao but is an open challenge to the entire people of Manipur, AMUCO said and expressed discontentment over the silent attitude of the Manipur and Nagaland governments including the central authorities, even after SAPO has been carrying out undemocratic activities.
Maintaining that no untoward incident would have happened had the Nagaland government intervened timely over the matter, AMUCO said that maintaining silence over SAPO's acts amounts to morally supporting the organisation.
Therefore, the Indian government should consider the matter as most serious and take up befitting actions against the Nagaland government.
While asserting that AMUCO stands for the territorial integrity of Manipur and will do whatever is needed in this regard, the release appealed to SAPO and its likeminded organisations to work together for promoting cordial relation between Manipur and Nagaland.
