Family abandons patient at JNIMS

Imphal, April 18 2022:
A patient has been left alone by his family at JNIMS but the hospital authority and staff are taking care of the patient who is suffering from chronic liver disease (liver cirrhosis) .
Meanwhile, JNIMS director professor L Deben has appealed to family members of the patient to communicate with hospital authority at the earliest.
Though hospital record named the patient as Chongtham Sophiokumar (32) son of Kumar of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai, the patient claims his name is Moirangthem Sophiokumar (32) son of Kumar of Nagamapal Paonam Leirak.
After assessing condition of the patient on Monday, JNIMS director professor L Deben told media persons that the man was admit ted to the casualty ward of JNIMS on March 30 by his wife and some representatives of AU Manipur Auto Drivers' Association.
After giving initial treatment, the patient was referred to Bed No 14 of Male medicine ward for further treatment.
In addition to suffering from liver cirrhosis, the patient is now suffering from other diseases and his wife did not return after walking out of the hospital on April 6 .
Nevertheless, all the medicines and other requirements of the patient are being borne by the hospital authority while one special attendant has been deputed to take care of him apart from nurses on duty.
Police had been informed to identify family of the patient but no one is coming forward till date, he said, adding that condition of the patient is deteriorating day-by-day.
While stating that the presence of family member is very much required for the patient at present and could lead to an issue if the patient succumbs, the JNIMS director appealed to family members to communicate with the hospital authority at the earliest.
