Blood donation marks Fire Service Week observance

In connection with the observance of Fire Service Week, 2022; Manipur Fire Service Department organised a voluntary blood donation camp cum campaign at RIMS on Monday in association with Life Savers Manipur, State Blood Cell-NHM Manipur, State Blood Transfusion Council, M/S Northeast Marketing Agency, Keishamthong and RIMS Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine.
The event was attended by RIMS Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine head Dr A Barindra Sharma, Manipur Fire Service joint director Laishram Nabachandra Singh, sub officer A Jillangamba Singh, Life Savers Manipur managing director K Padmakumar Sharma, 79th time blood donor Kh Premjit, among others.
In all, 20 personnel of Manipur Fire Service including four females donated blood during the camp.
After the blood donation camp, an awareness programme on fire safety was organised and demonstration held at RIMS Dental College.
Speaking in this regard, joint director L Nabachandra cautioned that fire accident not only destroys properties but also takes lives of people.
As a part of the 'Fire Safety Week' observance, the awareness programme is being conducted in hospital so as to prevent such unfortunate accident from happening, he informed.
Highlighting the need for installing fire extinguishers and other safety equipment in hospitals, Nabachandra said that getting acquainted on use of fire safety equipment and dousing fire in time is vital for preventing possible loss of human life and properties.
In his address, A Jillangamba explained that there are six types of fire.
They are A-type fire involving organic solids like wood, paper etc.; B-type fire involving flammable liquids like petrol, diesel, kerosene etc; C-type fire involving flammable gasses; D-type fire involving burning metals; E-type fire which is caused by electric short circuit; and F-type fire which is burning of kitchen.
Around 80 per cent of fire accidents are E-type fire, he informed.
While stating that the fire extinguishers are also of three types namely water based, dry powder and gas type fire extinguishers, Jillangamba said that,all three have different usage.
The fire extinguishers should be used according to the type of fire, he pointed out.
