Imphal, April 18 2022:
Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) care taker mayor L Lokeswar has declared that no street vendors will be allowed to ply their wares around Khwairamband Keithel from 8 am with effect from Tuesday and vending space for them would be arranged at Lamphel super market.
The step is being initiated to ease the problem of traffic congestion and parking in Imphal city and removal of street vendors from Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar particularly around the Khwairamband Keithel will begin from 8 am on Tuesday with the help of police, L Lokeswar said.
Lokeswar told media persons that necessary action will be initiated against any street vendor who fails to comply with measures taken up by the IMC and urged all concerned to extend help.
Increasing traffic volume and parking problem in Imphal city compelled IMC to initiate the new measure and take up market expansion at Lamphel area, he explained, adding that process for accommodating 1250 street vendors at Lamphel super market has begun.
According to L Lokeswar, IMC will chalk out a new parking system around Imphal city area and no double parking will be allowed.
He also said that steps for having a proper parking system in city area will be taken up soon in consultation with the MAHUD minister.
He also said that IMC's efforts to make Imphal city neat and clean remain fruitless as public are unaware of the cleanliness drive.
