Newmai, Nishikant inspect Waishel Maril

Water Resourcess Minister Awangbow Newmai and Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam inspected the condition of Waisel Maril today along with a team of Engineers from Water Resources Dept.
The team inspected the condition of Waisel Maril to discuss and take up necessary steps to prevent frequent flooding in adjoining areas along the waterway in at least 7 ACs namely Patsoi, Sagolband, Keishamthong, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, Nambol, Oinam and Wangoi during the rainy season.
Speaking to the media on the sideline of the visit, Awangbow Newmai said the blockage in some parts of the stream will be cleared before the onset of monsoon to prevent any flooding.

He further said that clearing of blockage is a temporary solution and there is a need to bring about a permanent solution to the issue of frequent flooding in areas along the waterway.
He also assured that he will discuss the issue with the Chief Minister and other MLAs.
There is also a need to have better coordination amongst various departments including Municipalities, he added.
Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam said he had apprised the Water Resources Minister about the problem posed by Waisel Maril not only in Keishamthong AC but in as much as 7/8 ACs and to take stock of its current condition, during the visit.
He added that the team has found several areas which are heavily blocked and there is a need to have a strong co-ordination between the Government departments including Imphal Municipality Corporation and the people to bring a permanent solution.
Nishikant Singh Sapam also expressed gratitude to the visiting team and exuded confidence that necessary work will be taken up at the earliest.
