Imphal, April 18 2022:
A Blood Centre was inaugurated at American Institute of Oncology (AOI), Babina Speciality Hospital, Khabeisoi on Monday along with holding a blood donation camp.
Speaking on the occasion, Babina Group of Companies managing director Dr Thangjam Dhabali pointed out that considering the many issues faced by cancer patients of the state while going for treatment in other states, the AOI was established at Babina Speciality Hospital in 2020 to provide cancer treatment in the state itself.
Till now, the institute has treated 9000 cancer patients out of which 250 underwent surgery.
Cancer treatment requires blood, but due to absence of blood centre in the institute the patients had to avail service of blood banks of RIMS, JNIMS and Shija Hospitals, he added.
Dr Dhabali continued that since absence of blood centre lead to many difficulties for patients needing blood as they have to wait for getting them from other blood banks, plans were made last year to open a blood centre at the institute itself.
Since there are lot of requirements for getting licence for opening of blood centre, it took time to get the licence from authority concerned.
And now finally, the blood centre has been opened which will ease the problems of patients, he mentioned.
Dr Dhabali further informed that people who need blood can get it from the centre by paying charges for use of equipment and testing.
People who have donated blood during the blood donation camp will also receive recognition card and the donors can get Blood free of cost when required by them or their family members.
20 staff of Babina donated blood during the camp.
