Imphal, September 22 2021:
Chief minister N Biren on Wednesday launched a programme to solar power health centres in Chandel, Tamenglong and Churachandpur districts at the government-organised community outreach programme held at Tamenglong district headquarters.
According to a joint release of SELCO Foundation and Crypto Relief, they are partnering with district administrations of Tamenglong, Chandel and Churachandpur and state's health department to power and revitalize the health care system.
The first phase of the initiative aims to cover 1278 healthcare facilities across 10 districts in five states of India including Manipur, it stated, while informing that 11 health centres in Manipur were solar powered as an initial pilot project extending over a period ofthreemonths.
Building on the success of this effort, the current project will integrate solar energy solutions and efficient medical equipment across 92 health care facilities in the three districts.
This is directly in line with the Manipur National Health Mission's commitment to ensure timely health services to people in rural and remote and under-served regions across the state.
Pointing out that the communities in these districts face challenges of difficult terrain, remoteness, vulnerability to climate risks and natural disasters, the release said that the districts will be greatly benefited from solar energy that can power critical healthcare services.
