DBC, DBHSS NSS volunteers observe Poshan Maah

NSS volunteers of Don Bosco College and Bon Bosco Higher Secondary School, Maram under the leadership of programme officers John Britto, Sister Ethel, Sister Gaanpatrei Kamei and Sonal Devendrabhai Vaghela organised various awareness programmes under Poshan Maah for pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls and children at Ramlung village and Maram bazar from September 1.NSS volunteers along with their programme officers commenced the Poshan Maah by observing 'Poshan Vatika', a plantation drive of saplings of nutritious fruit trees, local vegetables and medicinal plants and herbs.
DBC Maram principal Fr (Dr) KO Sebastian addressed the NSS volunteers by highlighting the importance and role of right nutrition for human body.
He emphasised on a balanced diet with a combination of essential nutrients and calories that are pivotal for the smooth working and growth of human body.
Sr Sonal and Sr Ethel carried out an awareness campaign for pregnant and lactating mothers on the importance of regional food and nutrition tips while John Britto and Gaanpatrei Kamei took up a session for the Anganwadi children and explained about the harm of fast food besides advising them to inculcate the habit of consuming healthy and balanced diet.
They also carried out a special drive for height and weight measurement of the children.
A one-day awareness drive was also organised for young girls at PHC Maram bazar where Dr Bharti stressed on maintaining hygienic lifestyle for good health and prevention of anaemia among adolescent girls.
The medical staff of PHC conducted a screening of anaemia for the girls after the talk.
At the end of the programme, nutrition kits were distributed to pregnant and lactating mothers of Ramlung village and Maram Bazar.
