Imphal, September 22 2021:
If the BJP-led government really loves Manipur, let every union minister announce one package each whenever they visit the state, said United Front Manipur (UFM) chairman Sapam Samungou.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, Samungou said that liability of Manipur government should be cleared and emancipate the state free from the burden of Central loan if the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has any concern for the development of Manipur.
He also urged the Central government to announce a financial package of Rs 50,000 crore for Manipur and bring an end to border dispute between Manipur and Myanmar.
According to Samungou, the Central government waived all liabilities of Nagaland government and even announced financial package of Rs 900 crore when the then Prime Minister (late) Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited the state.
He also urged the Central government to take up a special measure to provide jobs to 7 lakh unemployed youths of Manipur.
Many Union ministers visited Manipur but majority of their visits seem to be for election only and never consulted with about bringing development and welfare of the people, Samungou said, adding that visit of Union minister without any other purpose other than election would bring no benefit to the state instead it would rather increase number of poor people.
He further said that it would better for the state if state government pin points shortages to Union ministers when they visit the state.
