Ranjita murder case: Court acquits L Ibomcha

The Fast Track Special Court No 2, Lamphel Manipur on Friday acquitted Laishram Ibomcha Meitei of Yairipok Khoirom Mathak Leikai, who was arrested in connection with the death of one Ranjita Devi of the same locality, of all the charges.
As per the judgement passed by Judge Ch Brajachand Singh, Laishram Ibomcha, who was arrested under Sections 376 and 302 of IPC, has been found not guilty.
The Court further ordered the government to provide a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim's family under Section 357 of CrPC through the Victim Compensation Fund or any other scheme and instructed District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal, to ensure the compensation is provided to the victim's family through the MASLSA.
It may be recalled that the victim Thongram ningol Lourembam ongbi Ranjita had left her home around 11 pm on August 2, 2014 and rode a bicycle to the paddy field located in Kakmayai Mana Loukon.
She failed to return home and after a search, her lifeless body, which was battered with bruises, was recovered from the paddy field.
Yairipok PS registered an FIR in connection with death and carried out a search of the surrounding areas including the brickfield of Laishram Ibomcha, located at a distance of 200 metres from where the victim was found.
A pair of shirt and pants stained with red paint/colour, suspected to be blood was recovered from the brickfield, leading to Ibomcha's arrest on August 7, 2014 at around 5.43am.Yairipok PS filed the charge sheet against him (Ibomcha) on September 22, 2014 .
During the hearing of the case, the defence counsel argued that there was no eye witness in the case and no one could provide evidence linking Ibomcha to the case or confirming him to be the murderer.
Thus, Ibomcha is innocent and all the charges levelled against him are false, the counsel argued.
