Imphal, April 18 2022:
Langol Tarung Village Authority celebrated the 287th foundation day of Langol Tarung Kabui Village at the village on the theme 'Fight for Righteousness'.
The foundation day celebration was attended by IMC ward number 1 corporator Gaidon Gangmei, Village Authority chairman Meishongku Panmei and office bearers of the village authorities among others.
Speaking at the function, Gaidon expressed pride in celebrating 287th foundation day of the village which is deeply connected with the history of the land.
With the approval of the then Manipur king Garibniwaj, the Kabuis were made to settle in Langol range since 1735, he recalled, while adding that it is one of the oldest villages in Manipur to pay tax to the state government.
It is unfortunate that some people misled Langol Tarung Kabui village as a village set up after encroaching forest land, he said while refuting that such claims is baseless and unfounded.
While clarifying that the Langol Tarung villagers never cut trees or ignited forest fire, he contended that some officials of forest department set forest fire and destroyed trees for their selfish interest.
Tree saplings were planted and silent prayer observed as a mark of respect to the departed leaders of the village during the foundation day celebration.
