Imphal, August 06 2022:
Federation of Haomee (FOH) held its first assembly for indigenous people at Adimjati hall on Friday wherein various resolutions for protection of indigenous people were adopted.
During the assembly, chaired by FOH president Sapamcha Jadumani, it was noted that the first settlers/indigenous people in the state would be those with Yek-Salai (clans).
Anal, Aimol, Chiru, Chothe, Inpui, Lamkang, Liang mai, Kabui, Kharam, Khoibu, Kom, Koireng, Maring, Mao, Maram, Meetei, Monsang, Moyon, Paomei, Purum, Rongmei, Thangal, Tangkhul, Tarao and Zeme are the ethnic communities of Manipur as they did not come or move anywhere.
These 25 communities have their roots in Manipur and are related by blood with each other.
As such, they must stay together and all those attempting to distort the state's history can only be regarded as enemies.
Thus, the Assembly imposed a ban on any attempts to distort the state's history or rename its various traditional places.
The Assembly then unanimously resolved to preserve the endangered culture, customs, costumes, language and land of different indigenous communities; prevent non-indigenous people from intervening in the rights of indigenous village chiefs; oppose any form of violence against the indigenous population by outsiders coming to the state; prohibit sale of land of indigenous communities to outsiders; implementation of a follow-up programme to the memorandum submitted to the PM on July 22; monitor the needs of indigenous people at the legislative level, and set up an Indigenous Peoples' Council, Manipur for sharing information with the centre.
