Father accused of raping daughter, house dismantled

Thoubal, August 06 2022: House of a 36-year old man in Thoubal district was dismantled by an angry mob of locals on the charge of raping his own daughter.

While the rape survivor has been admitted in hospital in critical conditions after she consumed poison, the accused father, said to be a driver of police department, has been arrested by Thoubal Women police station and produced before the court of Thoubal JMIC, which remanded him to 10 days in police custody for further investigation.

The victim daughter reportedly consumed poison on July 31 and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Imphal as both her kidneys have been damaged.

As news of the outrageous act spread, angry mobs including meira paibi activists of Thoubal Wangmataba Mayai Leikai and locals stormed the house of the accused and dismantled it.

Representatives of Thoubal JMIC, Thoubal Childline and District Child Protection Unit along with a team of Thoubal women police station visited the hospital and recorded the victim's statement on Friday.

According to the police, Child Line Thoubal filed a complaint stating that the father had been sexually assaulting the minor victim since 2016 .

The police immediately registered a case under Section 305 IPC and Section 6 POCSO Act 2012 and arrested the accused on Thursday.

The locals informed that the mother left her husband and had been staying at the maternal home along with her daughter while she was still in a tender age.

However, subsequent to a case filed by the father the daughter got separated from her mother and returned to her father's place in 2014 while her mother re-married to another man.

As per the local, the man too married another woman but she left him unable to bear frequent assaults and violent acts of the man.

According to members of Child Line Thoubal, it received a call around 8am on August 4 about a young girl hospitalised and immediately rushed to record the statement of the victim, who disclosed about her harrowing tale of being sexually, mentally and physically assaulted by the accused.

The girl also recounted incidents of frequent assaults of her mother which only ceased since around 2020 after her aunt (father's sister) got estranged and stayed with them in the same house.

The latest incident of sexual assault reportedly occurred on July 31 this year when the girl requested her father to arrange for her stay in a boarding along with her friends to prepare for the next year's HSLC examination.

The father not only turned down the request but also sexually assaulted her.

On the same day around 5:30 pm she took the extreme step of consuming weedicide after which she was taken to a doctor at Haokha and brought back home only to be admitted to Shija Hospital on August 3 around 11 pm as her health condition deteriorated, informed the Child Line members.
