Importance of palliative care services highlighted

A one day sensitization programme of Palliative Care Services was held today at Sangai Hotel at Nagamapal.
The programme was organised by NCD Cell, National Health Mission in association with the Directorate of Health Services Manipur under National Program of Palliative Care (NPCC).
Speaking at the occasion, State Mission Director, NHM, Manipur, Dr Somorjit Ningombam said that the sensitization programme has been organised to raise awareness on palliative care which is focused on mitigating the sufferings of those who are terminally ill and their families to enhance their quality of life.
Presenting the keynote address, National Program of Palliative Care (NPCC), Dr L Tilakeswari Devi stressed on the importance of palliative care since it provides psychological, social and spiritual support to the patients.
She further informed that palliative care services training has been provided to more than 550 doctors, nurses, counsellors, physiotherapists, program managers etc in the State to provide maximum benefits to the needy patients.
Opening of palliative units in health care centres, hospitals and so on have enabled to boost palliative care services in the State, she added.
