Imphal, August 06 2022:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh has stated that the State Government is considering to write a letter to the Centre to implement certain projects at Champu Khangpok as works under Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY) could not be implemented there.
The Chief Minister was responding to a call attention motion raised by Congress MLA K Meghachandra on the last day of the second session of Manipur Legislative Assembly yesterday.
The Opposition MLA said that the Government took up a programme to convert certain Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and backward areas in Manipur to model villages in 2019-20.Saying that the Centre sanctioned over Rs 60 lakh to construct RCC community toilet, blacktop road, instal street lamps and provide internet connection at Champu Khangpok, K Meghachandra claimed that the fund had been withdrawn without executing any of the projects in April 2022 .
He also claimed that the Deputy Commissioner concerned had given the utilisation certificate.
Further claiming that none of the locals of Champu Khangpok were enlisted in the beneficiary list, the MLA claimed that the fund has also been misappropriated by mismanaging the data and submitting inaccurate reports to the Ministry concerned.
The Opposition drew the attention of the House to take befitting action against the officials who gave the approval to instal street lamps and blacktop road in the floating village.
Clarifying the issues raised by the MLA, the leader of the House said that the Centre sanctioned Rs 20 lakh each (approx.) for six villages including Champu Khangpok to implement some projects under PMAGY.
He said that works such as blacktopping of IVR road, instalation of street lamps and constriction of RCC toilet could not be implemented in Champu Khangpok as the latter being a floating village.
The projects were later shifted to Karang Ward no HI as per a decision of the PMAGY Convergence Committee, N Biren informed.
