2nd edition of AR half marathon held in Shillong

As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration, Assam Rifles on Sunday organised the second edition of Half Marathon at the headquarters of Directorate General of Assam Rifles at Laitkor, Shillong.
A release by PRO IGAR (S) informed that the marathon was conducted against the backdrop of East Khasi District at Laitkor and saw participation of serving personnel and families of Assam Rifles, Army, Air Force, CRPF, CISF, SSB, BSF and Meghalaya Police.
Seasoned Cross Coun try runners from Meghalaya Olympic Association also took part in the mega event and presented a challenge to the runners of the Armed Forces and CAPFs.
The run was divided into three categories - 21 Km, 10 Km and_5 Km, e^ch haying ifs own age groups.
A total of 303 people participated in 21 Km half Marathon, 512 in the 10 Km run and 224 in 5 Km Run for Fun.
The winners of 21 Km category in various age groups are Emphius Nongrum and Darisha Langjuh; Suvisje in 21-30 age group; and Lt Col Shreya Rawat in 31-40 age group.
Comdt Pramod Kumar and Aarti Yadav won in 41 to 50 age group and Col Eben Simeon & Beena Venkatesh were the winners in over 50 age group categories.
Assam Rifles DG Lt Gen PC Nair also participated in the over 50 age categories of 21 Km run.
The fervour and spirit of the marathon was boosted further with the participation of women and children in all categories.
Children barely 5 years old participated and successfully completed the 5 km course showing their enthusiasm and resolve, said the release.
Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra attended the event as chief guest and appreciated the enthusiasm and spirit of the participants and the spectators.
The Governor later handed over prizes to the winners of the 21 Km category.
The Assam Rifles popularly known as the 'Sentinels of the North East' has committed itself towards peace and development of the North East.
It has carried out numerous activities promoting "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" and "Fit India Movement" in the past.
In the release, Assam Rifles also thanked the sponsors of the event including SBI Bank, YES Bank, IDFC First Bank, Tata Advanced System Limited, Indian Oil Corporation & Assam Oil and the event organisers Cyruns Sports and Wellness.
The Half Marathon commemorates 76 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture, achievements and further promotes the "Fit India Movement" .
