Imphal, September 22 2021:
Remembering the great souls, who sacrificed their lives for safeguarding the unity and integrity of Manipur, United Committee Manipur (UCM) offered 'Langban Tarpan' to the martyrs at The Great June Uprising Memorial Complex, Kekrupat here on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, UCM president Konthoujam Joychandra called for putting an end to the notion of different administration exclusively for hill areas and added that there could be no dual government in the state.
One should not try to break the brotherly bond among the different communities living in the state, he added.
Recounting that people of Manipur rose against the inclusion of 'without territorial limit' in the cease fire agreement signed between the government of India and the NSCN IM on June 14, 2001 at Bangkok, he continued that the phrase was removed after the people's movement.
In all, 18 persons sacrificed their precious lives during the great June uprising.
So, people of Manipur should remember the supreme sacrifices made by these great souls for the cause of protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur and fight every issue of the state by joining hands, he urged.
Making it clear that UCM will stand firm at all times against those threatening the integrity of Manipur, Joychandra exhorted to join hands and find out why the pace of development in hill areas remains unprecedentedly slow.
