Court notifies MLA Arunkumar to respond within 5 days

Imphal, April 18 2022:
In connection with the election petition filed by Wangkhei AC ex-MLA Okram Henry against incumbent MLA Thangjam Arunkumar at Manipur High Court, the hearing was conducted on Monday and the court issued notice to MLA Arunkumar and other two respondents for giving their responses within May 9.The hearing of the petition filed by Okram Henry was scheduled on April 13 in the court of Justice Ahanthem Bimol.
However, the hearing was deferred to Monday as the court was declared holiday on the aforementioned date.
The hearing was conducted in court of justice Bimol.
The petitioner's counsel is Siddhartha Shankar Dey and assisted by advocate Ajoy Pebam.
After concluding the hearing, the court directed to issue notice to Th Arun kumar, respondent number 2 ex-MLA Yumkham Erabot and respondent number 3 INC candidate in the recently concluded election RK Priyobarta by speed post within five days.
The court directed to give reply to the notice within May 9 and also listed the case for the next hearing on May 9.It may be mentioned here that Okram Henry, in his election petition case alleged that the affidavit submitted by Arunkumar while filing the nomination paper, contained some wrong and misleading information.
It also alleged that Arunkumar violated section 33 and 33A of Representation of The People Act, 1951 and rule 4 of Conduct of Election Rules, 1961.The petition prayed to the High Court for declaring the election of Arunkumar as a member of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Wangkhei constituency null and void and also to declare that the petitioner, who secured second highest number of votes in Wangkhei A/C, as the MLA elect.
