Imphal, April 18 2022:
Several organisations including All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association, All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba, Manipur have strongly denounced the remarks made by union home minister Amit Shah to make Hindi compulsory subject till class X standard in north-eastern states.
In separate releases, the organisations made it clear that the move seemingly intended to achieve the goal of unification through Hinduism instead of bringing unity through Manipuri language will never be accepted.
Such forceful imposition by violating the democratic principles will not be allowed, they said, while asserting that such policy will lead to the extinction of the language and script of the state.
Recalling the statements of outer Manipur MP Dr L Pfoze and Mizoram CM against the imposition, the organisations also demanded CM Biren to take a firm stand against the Hindi policy.
Moreover, any decision related to making Hindi compulsory subject should have the prior information and consent of the people, they stressed and cautioned that intense protests would be launched against any attempt to arbitrarily impose Hindi language in the state.
