Samarendra remembered on his 14th death anniversary

Many social organizations observed the 14th Martyrdom Anniversary of Arambam Samarendra at various places of the State on Tuesday.
The noted writer was fondly remembered on his death anniversary at a mammoth function jointly organized by Aramabam Samarendra Trust and Social Standard Club, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai in Imphal East district.
On the occasion, social activist Th Iboyaima, president of Social Standard Club Salam Biren, Dr A Lokendro, retired Professor of Manipur University, Th Ramani of Nupi Samaj and Prof Kamarulzaman Askandar, University Sains, Pinang, Malaysia, were on the dais.
Speaking at the function, vice-president of Social Standard Club, Khurai, S Shamungou remembered Samarendra as a leader who was a strong advocate of freedom and liberty.
He said Samarendra stood against looking down on women by men because he wanted to uplift and empower the fair sex.

Nupi Samaj leader Ramani also recalled that Samarendra was very fond of cultural heritage of Manipur and proud of the land.
Samarendra yearned for peaceful co-existence among the various ethnic groups of the State, Ramani said and added that the late leader loved the land with all his heart.
Meanwhile, Patriotic Writers' Forum Manipur (PWFM) marked the death anniversary of Samarendra during a function at the private residence of Prof Jodhachandra Sanasam in Thangmeiband Selungba Leikai in Imphal West district today.
Prof Jodhachandra, president of PWFM and Sagolsem Indrakumar, former president of the Forum, were among others who were present on the occasion during which many of the participants spoke on the life and contribution made by Samarendra to the society.
Pari Imom Kanba Lup, Imphal East also observed the death anniversary of Samarendra along with organising a function at Lainingthou Puthiba Shanglen in Khurai Puthiba Leikai today.
A spot painting competition for school children was also held at the Shanglen as part of the observance.

At Jiribam, Jiri Development Organisation (JDO), Jiribam organised a function to commemorate the 14th Death Anniversary of Arambam Somorendro at the Conference hall of Jiri Ima Meira Paibee Apunba Lup, Jiribam (JIMPAL) today.
S.Maniton Singh, Secretary of Senior Citizens Society, Jiribam and Mutum Hemanta, President of Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) graced the function as chief guest and president respectively, while W.Second Singh, Vice president of UPF, B.Sarat Sharma, Advisor of Jiri Ima Meira Paibee Apunba Lup and H.Mema Devi, President of Jiri Ima Meira Paibee Apunba Lup attended as Guests of Honour.
At the outset of the observance, participants paid floral tribute to the portrait of late Arambam Somorendro and it was followed by the welcome address by delivered by W.Dinesh Meitei, General Secretary of Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) .
Spelling out the objectives of the observance, W.Dinesh Meitei reiterated the need for unity among the people to fight against the prevailing social condition of Manipur.
Sarat Thokchom, Advisor of All Jiribam Working Journalists' Union (AJWJU), Konjengbam Indira of Uchathol and L.Jaminikanta Singh, Lecturer of Jiri College were also among others who spoke on the life and contributions made by late Arambam Somorendra Singh during the programme.
The 14th Death Anniversary of Arambam Samarendra was also observed by All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA) at its head office located at Keishampat Lairembi here today.
Offering of floral tributes and remembering the works done by the deceased writer were the main highlights of the observance.
The 14th death anniversary of Kavi Arambam Samarendra was reportedly observed at Dhalpukhuri Manipur Kala Mandir, Padum Pukhuri Bazar at Hojai in Assam today.
On the other hand, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council observed the 14th Death Anniversary of Arambam Samarendra here at Iboyaima Shumang Leela here today.
The observance was attended by Dr Th Dilipkumar, president of Imphal Urban Co-operative Bank as Chief Guest; Ph Gunachandra, president of Manipur State Shumang Leela Council as President; P Khogendra, theatre director as Guest of Honor and Tompishak, Chairman of Institute of Co-operative Management as Special Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dilipkumar stated that Arambam Samarendra had worked tirelessly towards the upliftment of culture and tradition of the State and added that he had always wanted Shumang Leela art to maintain its glory.
Dignitaries paid floral tributes to the photo of the late personality as mark of respect.
