Imphal, June 10 2014:
Naga Women's Union (NWU) demanded for the identification of those perpetrators involved in the attacking of noted social activist Panti Gonmei at her house in Imphal in the wee hours June 6 .
Strongly condemning the incident, Naga Women's Union (NWU) said the gunfire attack on human rights defender Panti Gonmei at Tarung on June 6 at around 3 am was a threat to stop the defence of the human rights and the struggle for justice for helpless victims of rapes, tortures, human trafficking, extra judicial killings and racial discrimination.
"This is not the only time threatening the human rights defender, the first one- mobile threat also occurred on December 11, 2013 .
It is our earnest appeal to the attackers to come senses and not to repeat such action in the future," the NWU.
NWU appealed the Government (authorities concerned) to curb such crime from occurring in the future by identifying the accused immediately and be awarded a befitting punishment.
