Police foil vandalisation bid at Keirak

Thoubal, June 10 2014:
Timely arrival of police foiled a vandalisation bid of irate locals on the house of a rape accused at Keirak village in Thoubal district today.
Nongthombam Ibetombi alias Tombi (30) allegedly raped a 12-year-old daughter of his own elder brother on May 12 night.
In this connection, a JAC was formed in a public meeting held at the locality on June 6 .
In the meeting, the locals demanded that whereabouts of Ibetombi, who has been absconding ever since the incident came to light, be revealed by his family within June 9 .

As the family could not disclose Ibetombi's whereabouts within the stipulated time, irate locals tried to vandalise his house today afternoon.
However, a police team led by Kakching Police Station OC Rishikesh rushed to the spot and controlled the mob.
Registering a case, Kakching police have been investigating the rape.
Locals demanded the Government and family of the accused that adequate compensation and support be given to the victim apart from early arrest of the accused.
