2 new galleries add shine to State Museum

One Musical Instrument Gallery and an Archaeological Gallery, which were newly constructed by Manipur Government at Manipur State Museum in Imphal were inaugurated and dedicated to the people on Tuesday.
The new galleries have given a complete facelift to the State museum which was established in 1969.Ancient coins and stones engraved with historical facts of Manipur are on display at the Archaeological Gallery.
At the Musical Instrument Gallery, 73 different kinds of ancient musical instruments belonging to various ethnic communities of the State are being kept.
These aged musical instruments aimed at helping to rebuild the oneness among the different groups in the State.

Eminent musicologist Dr Laishram Birendrakumar, who opened the two galleries at a function, explained in detail about the antiques kept at the two galleries to the gathering.
Birendrakumar said he hopes the galleries would immensely help in the efforts to give one common identity among the different communities of the State.
The ancient musical instruments depict the similarities of religions and thoughts of the communities, he added.
Dr RK Nimai, Commissioner of Art & Culture, who was also present on the occasion, said that culture has various aspects beyond music and dance as it covers all activities of human society.
He said all the musical instruments once used by ancient people of different communities of the State vividly show oneness of these groups.
On the occasion, a guide book on Musical Instrument Gallery and a folder of the Archaeological gallery were also released.
Certificates were also distributed to participants of at a 10-day Cultural Appreciation Course which began on June 1 last.
