Samarendra memorial lecture held

The 9th Arambam Samarendra Memorial Lecture on the topic, 'Nation and State building, self determination and conflict resolution in Southeast Asia was held at MDU hall today.
Delivering the lecture, Prof Kamarulzaman Askandar of The Universiti Sains Malaysia, Pinag, said that the movement for independence is an effort to build up the National identity and change people's aspiration for self governance and determination to reality.
Such movements may take time, but the final goal would be actualisation of the identity of the Nation, he added.
It is generally seen in the Southeast Asian Nations that power and governance are centralised in the mainlands of these Nations, Prof Askandar said that these Nations generally adopt unitary mode of governance.
Aspiration for self determination is not a malicious concept, Prof Askandar said that it is an effort to end colonial rule through democratic means.
Elders Council President of Centre for Organisation, Research and Education, Dr L Debabrata Roy, Imphal Free Press Proprietor and Group Editor Pradip Phanjoubam and IGNTU Regional Campus Manipur Assistant Professor Dr Immanuel Zarzosang Varte also spoke at the lecture programme.
In the function, KOI Imphal presented a musical tribute to Samarendra while Lianda Folk Classical Academy and Thoibi Manipuri Dance and Cultural Research Institute Imphal presented dance items.
Meanwhile, the 14th Arambam Samarendra Martyrdom and Social Standard Club, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai also jointly observed the 14th death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai today.
Paying floral tribute, organising patriotic poetry competition and holding Pana Kangjei were the main highlights of the day.
Apart from presentation of Somorendra's song 'Chaikhre Ngasi' Moirang Parva was also staged at the function.
Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur also observed the 14th death anniversary of Arambam Samarendro at Singh Publicity Building, New Checkon today.
Prof Jodha Chandra Sanasam and PWF former President Sagolsem Indrakumar attended the occasion as president and talker respectively.
Jiri Development Organisation (JDO, Jiribam also observed the day at the conference hall of Jiri Ima Meira Paibee Apunba Lup, Jiribam.
Senior Citizen Society Jiribam secretary S Maniton, JDO president Mutum Hemanta, UPF vice-president W Second, JIMPAL Advisor B Sarat, and JIMPAL president H Mema attended the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
