More cases of buffalo deaths reported

Following reports of a mysterious disease killing over 30 water buffaloes at Leijangphai area under Thanlon sub-division, at least two more villages in Henglep sub-division had claimed that around 50 of their domesticated animals crucial to their cultivation have died in the last two weeks.
A statements issued by Mongken VA said that 33 water buffaloes from the village had died since May 29, 2014 .
While at Dahtum village the number of fatality during the same period stands at 17.The villagers appealed to the elected representatives to provide immediate remedial measures.
Officials of the veterinary department meanwhile said they are suspecting Black Quarter (BQ) disease to the cause of the animals' mass mortality.
Dr Lalnghaklien, VO, Churachandpur today said the department had visited Leijangphai area following reports about the deaths but could not accurately ascertain the cause as they could not obtain samples from the infected animals.
"All the infected ones have died and those that live are not infected," he said on the department's failure to establish the exact cause.
"Our men are already in Imphal to procure the vaccine, once they receive the supply we will be heading towards the affected villages in Henglep," he added.
