TKS gets a permanent office after 83 years

In its historic 83 years of existence, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), the apex student body of the Tangkhul community, inaugurated its administrative building at Ukhrul along with a solemn function attended by representatives of different student bodies, social organizations and district level officers on Friday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Dipu Gangmei inaugurated the new administrative building at Hamleikhong as chief guest in the presence of other district officials and leaders of various student and social bodies.
"Let's start a new and good relationship for better Ukhrul," said Gangmei, while speaking at the function.
He lauded the effort of the incumbent TKS team for the success and the contribution made towards the welfare of the students and community in Ukhrul.
Tangkhul Naga Long President Artax A Shimray, who attended the inaugural programme as special guest, exhorted the gathering on the social and moral obligations of the different organizations.
He reminded that TKS has to fulfill many obligations of the society and live up to meet the expectations of the people.
"There is huge drain of brain from our society," Artax said while referring to the hundred of youths moving and taking up works in the metro cities of the country.
Delivering the welcome address of the function, TKS President Yangmi Khapai expressed his sincere gratitude to the public, well-wishers and individuals for their generous contribution in fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of the student body.
"The TKS is so much indebted to all those who have generously helped and contributed towards the realization of new administrative building," he declared.
After the inaugural ribbon cutting and unveiling of the monolith by the chief guest, Sacred Heart Parish priest Fr.Mayopam sought blessing for the new administrative building.
In a brief report of TKS General Secretary Mahirah Raihing highlighted the historical background of the student body while remembering the pioneers and formers leaders.
In 1932, he stated, the Tangkhul Student Conference (TSC) was first formed by late Maj.
Bob Khating and gradually grew into a Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong due course in 1979. Raihing recounted the names like Maj.
Bob Khating, Wungmareo Shaiza, Ramyo Zimik, V.Arthur and Paul Muinao among others, who were instrumental in shaping the history of TKS.
In a historic programme today, a team of Naga Students' Federation, ANSAM, ATSUM, TSL, TMNL, TNWL and its various affiliated zonal bodies graced the function.
Earlier, UTBC pastor Rev.Somi Kasomwoshi sought the invocation blessing.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by TKS finance secretary Shanganing Lungleng.
