Abducted Taxi driver found shot dead

Imphal, March 07, 2014:
A taxi driver, who was reportedly abducted by some armed miscreants for a ransom of Rs.50 lakh from Kangpokpi area on February 22 last, was found shot dead at Molvam Giljang Village under Kangpokpi Police Station in Senapati district at around 8 am today.
The deceased driver has been identified as Manoj Ali alias Motu (22), s/o Sukonjanda of Bokajan in Assam, but presently staying at Uripok Thingel Leikai in Imphal West.
According to police, the deceased Manoj was the driver of a Tata Winger passenger vehicle operating between Imphal and Dimapur.
He was hired by some unidentified persons for carrying a patient from North AOC to Kangpokpi on February 22.He remained traceless though his vehicle was recovered by police from Mangbung Village on February 25. The kidnappers reportedly called up the owner of the Tata Winger and made a monetary demand of Rs.50 lakh for safe release of the driver.
However, the ransom was not given to the kidnappers.
The dead body of the driver was discovered by some timber collectors today morning.
Manoj sustained a bullet injury on his forehead.
Kangpokpi Police retrieved the dead body and kept at RIMS Mortuary for post-mortem.
