Vivekananda birthday celebrated

A 'regional Level Youth Convention' along with presentation of folk song and cultural items marked the 150th birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda organised by Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Cherrapunjee (Meghalaya) in association with Manipur State Celebrations Committee at Asha Hall, North AOC today.
As the chief guest of the celebration programme, Governor Vinod Kumar Duggal led the gathering in offering floral tributes to the portrait of Swami Vivekananda, the of global peace and youth empowerment.
Calling upon the present day youth to follow in the footsteps of Swami Vivekananda and embrace his principle of peace, the Governor said that Vivekananda's teachings are very much essential and relevant at the current juncture.
Noting Sawmi Vivekananda as not only a prominent Indian who dedicated himself for empowerment of the youth but also messenger of peace throughout the world, Duggal expressed that Swami's principle has become a necessity to trigger positive changes in the society.
While students of RK Memorial Students' Home presented the opening song of the event, L Bedabati and her party presented folk songs at the occasion in which exhortation speeches by the dignitaries, question and answer session, staging of cultural items and distribution of gifts were the other highlights.
The celebration was presided over by Vice Chancellor of Vivekananda University, Belur Math (West Bengal) Sawmi Atmapriyananda Maharaj with Padmashree Th Haridas Singh and Chairman of Board of Secondary Education Manipur (IPS) P Dhanakumar gracing as the guests of honour.
