Imphal, March 07, 2014:
It was MPSC-B all the way in the 3rd place play off of the 2nd Yumnam Rashmani Memorial Mens' Open 7-a-side Hockey tournament as they steam rolled a hapless SYUC, Uchekon by a margin of 6 goals to one.
So dominating were the players from the police team that most part of the match was confined on the side of SYUC, Uchekon.
Outplayed in every department of the game, the police team toyed around with the players from Uchekon and scored at will, though they did concede a goal.
The flood gates opened as early as the 4th minute of the match when N Shantikumar sounded the board in the 4th minute.
Receiving the ball at the mid-field, Shantikumar managed to dribble his way into the penalty box of SYUC and after creating enough space for himself unleashed a powerful shot, that beat the custodian of the rival team hands down.
Stung by the early goal, SYUC went on the offensive and after breaching the defence line of the police team managed to level through M Philip in the 19th minute.
The equaliser only galvanised MPSC-B and with the police players all over the ground and dictating the pace of the game, Shantikumar was at it again when he latched onto a defence splitting pass and sounded the board in the 23rd minute to restore the lead.
The onslaught continued and L Purnachandra rose to the occasion when he managed to dispossess a defender of SYUC and sounded the board in the 24th minute.
With the players from the police team swarming all over the place, Purnachandra again found himself well positioned to score his second goal in the 27th minute.
By this time, SYUC had withdrawn into a shell and this only worked to the advantage of the police team as Jupiter sounded the board to help his team take a lead by five goals to one in the 29th minute.
Th Rakesh scored in the 58th minute to complete the rout.
